Andi Concha

Andi Concha, is an animation director who specialises in character based work.

Andi graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in graphic design in 2014. Her initial focus was in speculative design and interactive projects that allowed her to explore the world of moving images. Her graduation project called ‘ChairAXJ01’ was showcased at the London Design Festival and the V&A amongst other galleries in London. Later she worked as a junior designer in technology based companies where, given the freedom to experiment, she found her love for animation.

Andi has given talks about her work in Madrid and London and has taught design concepts at the IE University in Madrid. She has also given workshops at the V&A Museum, La Casa Encendida and the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

Andi is based in Madrid and in parallel to her animation career she runs a studio space and screen printing studio in Madrid called Ruda Studio . Having the studio allows her to invite artists for residencies, explore screen-printing projects and offer workshops teaching different techniques.

Andi’s first independent film was showcased in Beijing, Madrid and London. Andi has also worked commercially for clients such as the BBC, The New York Times, Inditex and the London Brain Project among many others. She has also directed music videos for national and international bands.

Andi Concha is an animation director and graphic artist based in Madrid. Recently graduated from the Royal College of Art, where she has explored in depth experimental narrative using 2D animation.

Andi’s work focuses on creating structures and rules as a base to then work around. Once she has established these limitations, she then explores the visual ideas around them, working with her graphic language and use of space. She is inspired by the Oulipo Group, formed by Raymond Queneau in the 1960's, who sought  to create works using constrained writing techniques.

Andi aims to apply a creative twist with her exploration of formal structures which she then applies to her graphic language. Andi works mainly with digital 2D animation, however she also likes to explore analogue techniques such as using screen printing or graphic collage to create moving images. Andi enjoys producing  works with a variety of collaborators, especially from the music industry.

Her work sits within the field of experimental narrative animation. She likes to make her films  using very minimal graphic language. She focuses on character design, crafting performances between the characters that allow them to communicate without the use of dialogue.

Andi works in both independent projects as well as commercial ones. Her more conceptual

works have been displayed  in galleries and film festivals. In these works, she likes to question the audience and make them reflect upon what they are interacting with or watching.  In her commercial works she likes to bring forward her graphic language to communicate effectively what the clients needs. Commercially Andi has documented stories, made gifs for articles, created animated campaigns for products, and made music videos.
